George Edward Hess' Obituary
George Edward Hess, 94, Tulsa, Oklahoma died May 27, 2016, just ten days short of his 95th birthday. He died at the Claremore Veterans Center in Claremore, Oklahoma.George was born June 5, 1921 in Watts, Oklahoma to James Hugh Hess and Maude Gertrude Welch Hess. He attended Westville High School, but left prior to graduation to help on the family farm. He attained a GED and later studied drafting. At age 21 George was drafted and served in World War II as a member of Battery B-15th Field Artillery, Observation Battalion. He was stationed in North Africa and Italy. He attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged November 30, 1945. He retired July 15, 1975, after 30 years from the U.S. Postal Service.George married Jo “Maxalee” Walden Ford July 2, 1979. He loved children and quickly endeared himself to Maxalee’s grandchildren, and later, her great-grandchildren. George and Maxalee enjoyed over 26 years together, separated only over the past five months due to declining health.Survivors include wife Maxalee, one son George Michael Hess of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, from a previous marriage and two sisters, Jean Engler and Geneva Rush, both of Tulsa.Preceding George in death are his parents, five brothers and three sisters.Graveside service will be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, June 2, 2016, in the Garden of Prayer, at the Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
