George Huffines' Obituary
George Huffines, a long time resident of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018. He was surrounded by his loved ones in the cardiac intensive care unit of Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa.He was born Dec. 6, 1932 in Burlington, North Carolina to the late Samuel Alexander Huffines and Grace Riddle Huffinesand was preceded in death by his older sister, Eva Mae Huffines.George was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School and then went on to receive his bachelor, then masters degree in Mechanical Engineering at The University of North Carolina. He then joined the United States Air Force earning the rank of Pilot Officer before receiving an honorable discharge in 1957. In the next stage of his life, he married and then began a career with NASA Space Center as an Aeronautical Engineer and played a major role in crucial design elements of the Apollo Space Program. He advanced his career as interim director of the Manned Space Center, that was later known as the Johnson Space Center. Later in life, he went on to earn his Master of Theology degree and work at the City of Faith in Tulsa, OK until his retirement. His strong Christian beliefs enabled him to lead his life following in the path that he believed the Lord laid out for him.He is survived by his wife, Frances Lane Fox Huffinesoriginally from Mebane, NC and their four children, daughter, Lisa Huffines Owens and spouse Mark Almon Owens and their two children Autumn and Almon; son, Gregory Todd Huffines and spouse Le Lien Huffines and five children Cooper, Raleigh, Sam and twins Emma and Evan; daughter, Julie Huffines Caswell and spouse Ronald Dale Caswell and three children Kramer, Madison and Brooke; and son, Jeffrey Stephen Huffines. There are no scheduled services at this time.
