George Louis Marchetti's Obituary
George Louis Marchetti was born on August 31, 1942 and grew up in his hometown of Lexington, Missouri. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1960 and from Central Missouri State University (now University of Central Missouri) in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. George ran track and played football for both LHS and CMSU, and he was an Eagle Scout honored in the tribe of Mic-O-Say. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Alice McKean, on August 22, 1964 at the First Presbyterian Church of Lexington.
George died after an extended illness while under the loving care of family and friends at the Clarehouse on January 3, 2025, entering into the eternal rest of his heavenly home with the Blessed Trinity. He is lovingly remembered as a beloved, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. George was a faithful follower of his Lord Jesus Christ, worshipping in the various churches he actively served throughout his lifetime and giving generous gifts to ministries, missions, civic organizations, and charities. He enjoyed running, gardening, hunting (particularly with his brothers and sons for wildlife, Native American artifacts, and morel mushrooms), fishing, golfing, reading (daily his Bible and frequently Western Frontier and Civil War fiction and non-fiction), dancing with Mary (especially to 1940’s Big Band and 1950’s Doo-Wop music), playing the guitar, listening to Country & Western music, photographing and drawing Nature, wood carving duck decoys, volunteering, and traveling – above all, to the mountains, the natural grandeur of which gave deepest pleasure, and also to Italy and Greece with Mary and other family. Both his personal hobby of running and his professional job as an estimating engineer magnified his determined perseverance. As an avid runner, George earned many trophies and medals in local and regional competitions, being honored by the accolade of Oklahoma Runner of the Year in 1994, which qualified him to run the Boston Marathon. Moreover, he resisted retirement, continuing his valued work as a Project Controller for Audobon. After retiring, he delighted in volunteering with his best friend, Don Letzkus, at St. Francis Hospital – South. George won the friendship and admiration of others by his enduring love, loyal dedication, sly humor, openhanded sacrifice, and dutiful service. George is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Marchetti; his parents, John and Gladys Marchetti; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Ferne McKean; his “second parents” uncle and aunt, Lawrence (“Happy”) and Virginia (“Honey”) Maher; his brother, John Larry Marchetti; his nephew, David Wykoff; and his niece, K’Ann Barker.
