George J. Mowery's Obituary
George J. Mowery, age 87, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on October 9, 1931 to the late George W. Mowery and Ruth Helen (Hiatt) Mowery. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Sylvia Idell Mowery, His twin sister, Colleen (Mowery) Gray, and his brother Carl L. Mowery.George was an avid baseball fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, an avid hockey fan, particularly the Boston Bruins team and the Tulsa Oilers. He also enjoyed watching football games on television with his son, Bill. George also loved to go on Cruises, especially to anywhere that had a warm beach. He loved to go fishing, whether deep sea fishing, or out on the lake with his sister and her family. George worked at Cintas in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he made many lasting friendships and memories, for 54 years before retiring December 31, 2017. He attended church at Skelly Drive Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.George entered into the United States Air Force on April 9, 1951, where he served for four years in Alaska, receiving an honorable discharge on January 18, 1955. He was very proud of having served his country during the Korean War, as many of his classmates did not return home from this war.He is survived by his son, William (Bill) Mowery and wife Brenda, with whom he resided, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, his daughter, Teresa (Mowery) Pool and husband Stan of Gore Oklahoma, brother Ronald Mowery, sister Lorraine (Mowery) Henderson, brother Terry Mowery, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
