George William Sherman Heacock's Obituary
George William Sherman Heacock, born on May 15, 1940, in Iowa City, IA, to Arthur and Irene Heacock, passed away on September 9, 2024, in Tulsa, OK.
George lived a life full of diverse passions and stories. He met the love of his life when he was only 17 and was married to her until her passing in December 2023. He spent his childhood travelling between his home in La Puente, CA and his family home in Saskatchewan, Canada. Growing up the son of a mechanic, he had a love of cars. His favorite was his 1955 Chevy which he named “Fantasy in Red”. He was known around town to race and was always up for a challenge.
George described himself as a “frustrated cop”. He always desired to go into law enforcement, but his wife was worried about his safety, so he became a Quality Engineer in the Aerospace industry instead. He would pacify his desire for adventure by going on a ride-along with his cousin-in-law, who was a Los Angeles County Sheriff deputy.
George had many interests and hobbies. He was a gun enthusiast and would spend his spare time target shooting. He enjoyed CB Ham Radios and went by the handle “Paper Puncher”, a reference to his target shooting. When the first home computer came out in the early 1980’s, George bought a Commodore 64. He also loved cycling. He was known as a Clydesdale cyclist and participated in numerous marathons in the Southern California area.
An enthusiastic storyteller, George would sit and talk about his life and adventures for hours. Telling stories about his trips to Canada, or people he raced in his Chevy, or things he did while in the US Army Reserve. He and his stories and adventures will be greatly missed.
George is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Stefana Heacock and sister Ethel Anglin.
George is survived by children: James Heacock, Glen Heacock, and Robin DeArmon; brother Ross Heacock; grandchildren: Alexandria Armstrong, Ashley Heacock, Brittany Gueorguiev, Ryan DeArmon, Adam Heacock, Aaron DeArmon, Amber Heacock, and Autumn Heacock; great-grandchildren: Angelina DeArmon, Nathaniel DeArmon, Justin Armstrong, Abigail Armstrong, Jace Ells, Cody Gueorguiev, Hailey Gueorguiev, and Jett Ells
