Georgia Ann Fink's Obituary
Georgia Ann Fink, retired Oklahoma Public School educator, died October 10, 2011 in Arizona. Georgia was born May 25, 1926 to Arthur and Ethel Smith on a farm SE of Checotah, OK. She attended Carr Creek Country School, Checotah High School, and Connors State College, where she received a basketball scholarship. She then completed her B.S. and Master's degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern Oklahoma State University. Georgia met her husband, Howard, while attending college and they were married on August 28, 1947. They both began teaching in Blackgum, OK, where they taught for 13 years before joining the Tulsa Public School System. Georgia taught in Tulsa for the next 23 years before retiring on Leonard Mountain with Howard. After her retirement, she assisted Howard with his duties as the Wagoner County Secretary of Election Board until his retirement. She enjoyed her home, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, playing dominoes and watching OU football. Georgia was a faithful and dedicated follower of Jesus Christ, was a founding member of Blackgum Baptist Church, and a loyal supporter of local Baptist Churches in the communities where she lived. She taught children's Sunday School for 36 years, and was a discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship for 13 years. She never quit teaching! Georgia was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother who came from humble dwellings, pursued and persevered to achieve a full, blessed life. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ, 'has fought the good fight'... 'finished the race well', and now is in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Georgia was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Annetta; husband of 58 years, Howard; sisters, Gertrude Gray, Wanda Cranfill, Thelma Limke; and brothers, Horace and Hoit Smith and her parents. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son, Michael and his wife Lynn; brother, Herbert Smith; 6 granddaughters, Mickie Coxen-Taylor, Cara Schachtlie and husband Dennis, Kirsten Coxen, Andrea MacDonald and husband Justin, Allison Nurczynski and husband David, Ashley Hunter and husband Marc; 7 great grandchildren, Bryce and Garrett Taylor, Jackson and Megan Schachtlie, Caleb, Graham and Kellen MacDonald and Annetta's husband, Jim Coxen.
