Geraldine Doris Marple's Obituary
Geraldine Doris Marple, 90 , has gone home to the Lord, passing of natural causes on Sunday morning, July 3, 2016 at Medical Park West in Norman,OK. She was the elder daughter of Grant and Clara Van Duyne, both of whom preceded her in death. Gerry was born on August 5, 1925, in Muskogee, OK, but was raised in Tulsa, OK along with her younger sister, Patricia. It’s interesting to note that she and her family lived across the street from Stanley Marple and his family for a couple of years during elementary school. They lived in the same area of Tulsa when growing up and met again in high school where they dated. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1943. Stan volunteered to serve two years in the Navy during WWII, and upon return asked Gerry to marry him. Gerry and Stan married in 1946 and celebrated 64 years together before his passing in 2010. Gerry’s pride and joy was her family. She had four sons and was a homemaker to meet the challenge of nurturing and raising these boys. Gerry and Stan encouraged responsibility and hard work, and emphasized college educations, resulting in degrees ranging from bachelor to doctorate among the four sons. In their retirement years, Gerry and Stan traveled extensively, both domestically (especially visiting their sons and families) and internationally. They were long time members of Christ Presbyterian Church of Tulsa. Gerry is survived by her four sons and their spouses: Stanley Lawrence, Jr and Suzanne of Granbury, TX; James Edward and Melanie of Glen Rose, TX; Gerald Todd and Rhonda of Norman, OK; and David Paul and Inga of Los Altos Hills, CA. She has 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her sister Patricia, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, OK on Friday, July 8, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church of Tulsa.
