Geri was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Hazel and Clyde Roberts, the fourth of five children, Peter, Verna Mae, Norma, and Clyde Jr. She married Mehdi Sherkat in 1952, and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage until his passing in 1994. Geri raised four children, Darla Bellotti, Darren Sherkat, David Sherkat, and Daniel Sherkat. During her youth she lived in rural Oklahoma near Sapulpa. Geri also spent time in La Plata, New Mexico. At La Plata High School, she participated in the Horse Riding Club. She graduated from Sapulpa High School, where she played basketball alongside her sister, Norma. After high school, Geri attended the University of Tulsa, where she met Mehdi, who forged a career at American Airlines in Tulsa. Geri worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone before devoting herself to raising her children. After her children were older, Geri worked in a variety of occupations, including at Tulsa Public Schools, University Village, and Victory Christian School. She was a member of a several of civic organizations, including the Tulsa Garden Club, First United Methodist Church, and Woodlake Assembly of God.
She is survived by her brother Clyde Roberts and his wife Carole, her children, grandchildren Nicholas Mellor, Heather Poland (Zach), Ashley Sherkat Eldridge (Ryan), Jackson Sherkat Watts, Owen Sherkat Watts, and Cherie Sherkat. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
