Gilbert F. Jones Gilbert F. Jones, one of the few surviving members of 'The Greatest Generation' and a long-time Tulsa resident, passed away on October 11, 2011, at the age of 92 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Evelyn Paysinger Jones, and his son, Johnny Jones. He is survived by his son, Buddy Jones of Katy, Tx; his daughter, Virginia Davis, of Tulsa, Ok; Buddy's wife, Susan Jones and their children , Brit Jones and Amanda Schoenemann; Virginia's daughter, Cari Sturch; Johnny's daughters, Evelyn Jones, Johnna Flynt, and Shelly Maxie; eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Born July 23, 1919, in Mountainburg, Arkansas, Gilbert grew to adulthood in Allison, Texas. Gilbert was a veteran of the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He lived in Tulsa From his Army discharge until his death, except for 20 years spent in Oklahoma City. Starting as a truck driver for Tulsa Paper Company, Gilbert rose to General Manager and VP of Mead Fine Paper Group prior to retiring in 1985. During his sons' young lives, Gilbert was instrumental in starting the Tulsa Little League Baseball Program, serving as the Tulsa Little League Commissioner, a baseball coach, and a basketball coach for West Tulsa Youth. Gilbert was a long time member and deacon of Red Fork Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Red Fork Baptist Church, Tulsa, with committal service is to follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow.
