Glennard "Dale" Southerland's Obituary
Glennard Dale Southerland entered into the presence of the Lord on January 26, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and in the presence of his family. Known as Dale to most people who knew him, he was born April 7, 1952 in Shamrock, Texas to Arthur Dean Price and Cherry Lou Bassett Price. The family lived in Shamrock and Amarillo until they moved with their stepfather, Earby Southerland to the Southwester Oklahoma. Dale graduated from Olustee High School in 1970. He attended Altus Jr. College and then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. It was there that he met his future wife, Paula Joyce Dunn. They were married on November 11, 1978 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Tulsa. They have resided in Tulsa since that time. Dale was employed as a manager trainee for Kens Restaurant Systems, now Mazzio’s Pizza. He worked in various capacities in the company for 23 years. For the past 10 years he has owned his own company doing computer programming, particularly with point of sales programs. He retired in August, 2014 due to ill health. Dale was a fun-loving person who belonged to several organizations which he served tirelessly. He had a strong work ethic and he was generous with his time. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with and spoiling his four grandsons. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cherry Lou Lackey, his stepfather, Earby Southerland, brother Edwin Price and grandson Brigdon Southerland. Those who survived him are his wife, Joyce, their son, Kevin Southerland, and his wife, Chanda, and four very special grandsons, Michael, Joshua, Zachary and Caleb Southerland. He is also survived by his sisters, Rebecca Palmer of Altus and Twilla Perkins of Hollis, and brother, David Southerland of Muskogee. Others who survived him include his mother-in-law, Sarah Dunn of Brookhaven, Mississippi, and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Charlene Dunn and Terrelle and Leonard Hedge, all of Brookhaven, Mississippi and by several nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Eastland Baptist Church.
