Gordon Ray Tarman's Obituary
Gordon Ray Tarman went to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the age of 74.
Gordon was born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Hattie Mae (Drew) and Clair Gordon Tarman. Gordon graduated from Burbank Senior High School, Burbank California, on June 17, 1965.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 25, 1965, and attended a machinist-mate school at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Gordon met his wife, Cassandra, while both were serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married on May 18, 1968, at U.S. Naval Air Station, Pensacola Florida, at our Lady of Loreto Chapel.
Gordon was a Vietnam Veteran, served at the U.S. Naval Support activity detachment, Chu Lai, Vietnam. He attended Cargo Handling School and received Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, and two bronze stars, and a Vietnam campaign medal. Gordon received an honorable discharge in December 1970 after serving at San Diego, California USS Sperry (AS-12).
Gordon worked at U.S. Steel, Gary, Indiana 1971-1979. He graduated as Journeyman Pipe fitter from U.S. Steel Vicing Forman School. He moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1979, and was employed at McDonnell Douglas as a Journeyman Plumber. In 1982, Gordon worked at Mac’s Plumbing Service, a plumber apprentice, and passed the Oklahoma journeyman plumber test. Through the years, he was employed by heritage plumbing and Mullin plumbing. August 2008 the Jenks Board of Education hired Gordon. He worked in the maintenance department plumbing until his retirement day of June 27, 2013.
He loved fishing, camping, going to OSU Games, scrapbooking, taking Route 66 road trips, and being at family events.
He loved the Lord Jesus and reading his bible and devotional. He taught Sunday School Class for children and was a Royal Ranger Leader. He went on short church mission trips. He loved volunteering at Loaves and Fishes.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Mae and Clair Gordon; and his brother Gene. He is survived by Cassandra, his wife of 53 years; his four children Gordon R. Tarman II, Loretta Foster and husband Jon; Simon Tarman, and Lynda Grover and husband Adam; and grandchildren Cole Tarman, Haze Vantassel, Kylee Gosney, Ryland Gosney, Cierra Foster, Nathan Foster, Kadence Grover, Ethan Grover, Sawyer Grover, and Karalie Grover.

Visitation will be 4-6 pm, Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Service will be 12:30 pm, Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Floral Haven Chapel
