Grant and I have been friends since 1998, when we met in high school. We were on the academic team together, and shared a love of faith, food and history. As different as night and day, our differences fueled our friendship. During his battle with cancer, he was quite brave and stoic- he never wanted to let opportunities pass by, nor worry others with his burden. I loved him dearly and will miss his generosity, kindness and wit most of all.

Grant was one of my son's best friends. They were on the academic bowl team in high school. They were roomies for part of college and forever OSU Cowboy fans. He was in Caleb's wedding and Caleb's boys called him Uncle Grant. The first time Grant came to one of our family get-togethers, I was worried we would scare him to death when we played different games, because we are all so competitive and sarcastic. He fit right in as if he were a member of our family. It was a privilege to know Grant. He will always be in our hearts.Valerie Spreiter
