Grant Evan Jones' Obituary
Grant Evan Jones, 76, of Tulsa, OK went home to be with the lord and other family members on Friday, October 16th after a brief illness. He was born in Farnsworth TX to W.A. LeRoy Jones and Mary Palermo Jones Dunson. He lived the majority of his life in Tulsa Oklahoma. Grant loved kids and had a unique ability to relate to them. He treated them like little adults and they loved him for this type of respect. While serving as a PFC in the U.S. Army and in the Korean War, Grant befriended a young Korean boy who had been abandoned. Grant snuck the boy into the barracks and took care of him. Grant and several other soldiers decided to make him his own uniform and little “Johnny Jones” became a part of their unit. Grant would have adopted Johnny if he had been married at the time. After his discharge from the Service, Grant tried to obtain Johnny’s whereabouts but was unable to find him. Grant was an automotive specialist by trade for most of his life. He started his career in this industry by managing a Phillips 66 Service Station in Tulsa. Later, he became self-employed when he open up his own automotive service company also in Tulsa. He was much more than a mechanic. He loved the automobile and repaired, painted, restored and rebuilt many classic cars throughout his career. He did not know how to retire and into his retirement became a security guard for the Warren Place Properties where he spent an additional ten years getting to know and care for a whole new set of friends. Grant was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor. He had so much love for everyone and was loved by all. He loved the outdoors and being close with nature. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his friends and family all of his life. In winter months he enjoyed close times with his wife and kids playing Yahtzee, greedy, marbles and poker. He touched and influenced so many lives through his sense of humor and caring attitude. Grant had an uncanny ability to fix almost anything and received great pleasure in helping others with anything he could. He was the most kind-hearted man you could ever meet and you had a sense about his character the moment you met him. He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Ann of 56 years to cherish the memories of their life together; his sons Paul Joseph Jones of Las Vegas, NV, Brent Evan Jones of Tulsa, OK and his daughter Cindy Denise Giddings of Tulsa, OK who all three desire to continue his spirit of kindness. He leaves grandchildren Jon Ablan, Josh Ablan, Sasha Piel, Robbie Newman, Alisha Newman, Breeanna Jones, Eric Giddings and Sydney Mills. He also leaves a great grandchild Jayla Robinson.
