Gregory Woodrow Hickey's Obituary
Gregory W. Hickey was born June 10, 1948 in Conway, AR, and died of cancer on Thursday May 17, 2007. Greg graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1966 and went on to earn his Masters in Education at Northeastern State in Tahlequah. His first teaching job was in Wheaton, MO, where he also coached a girls basketball team, taking them to state. He moved back to Oklahoma and taught at Coweta for a few years then took the job, teaching history at Glenpool Middle School, where many of his students referred to Mr. Hickey as the “History King”. He retired from Glenpool in April of this year after 30 years of teaching. Greg was an avid OU fan and a serious coin collector. He was an excellent pool player, receiving trophies, jackets, t-shirts and cash. Although he never admitted it, he was a good artist. Drawing Garfield was his speciality. Greg, with his infectious smile and warped sense of humor will be deeply missed by his family and friends.Survived By: parents, Bailey and Ila Hickey; 2 daughters, Tabitha and Stephanie Hickey; 2 sisters, Karen Schoen and Beverly Burgett; 1 brother, Gary Hickey; his Glenpool School “family”, the students and many friends.
