Gwendolyn Evadne Brewster's Obituary
Gwendolyn Evadne Smith Brewster was born in Belize City, Belize (located in Central America) to the proud parents Edward Robert Smith (deceased) and Victoria Alexandrina Bucknor Smith (deceased) on January 19, 1922. Gwendolyn (known as Gee) had 9 siblings two of which were stillborn. They are Hannah Eveline Louise Smith (deceased), Gilbert Edward Smith (deceased), Norman Edward Smith (deceased), Elwin Lincoln Smith, Robert Edward Smith (deceased), Karl Ellismere Smith and Gretel Olive Smith (died at 1 year old). Gee attended Wesleyan Methodist School at the precious age of 3 to 5 years old. Then she attended St. Mary’s School and graduated at 13 years of age. A very hard worker, Gee began to work at the age of 14 at Chavanes Pop Factory washing bottles and was eventually promoted to bookkeeping for the company all while earning her education at Vernon Evening School. She furthered her skillsets by attending extramural school for one year for typewriting , bookkeeping and accounting. She worked at Chavanes for 26 years. At the age of 21, Gwendolyn met William Locke (deceased) who captured her heart. And from their union three beautiful children were born; William Hubert Locke, Laverne Victoria (Locke) Harris (deceased) and Sandra Antoinette Locke (deceased). Later, she also raised Jean Hyacinth Davis as her own. She loved and adored her family. Gee was a very generous woman and found it as a way of life to serve and help others. She loved her family dearly and spoke of them all the time. After building her beautiful home from the ground it was ruined after the Hurricane of 1961 and she decided to relocate to the United States of America. On November 4, 1962 Gee moved with her family to the cold windy city of Chicago, Illinois. She found work immediately in housekeeping and was determined to do well and provide for her family. Later she was set up with Cleo Brewster (deceased) by her best friend Chris McNair. They later married and were blessed with each other. Gee has always been sensitive to God as a child and was committed to going to church all her life. But it wasn’t until watching Jimmy Swaggart and Rex Humbard on television in the 1980’s that she truly gave her heart to Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was an active member of St. Mary Magdalene Church for several years until joining the Apostolic Church of God in 1986 where Bishop Arthur M. Brazier was Pastor. She served in the Angelic Choir and was a part of the Intercessory Prayer Group. After the death of her daughter Laverne in 2014, Gee moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in July of 2015 to reside with her grandson, Dwayne Lewis. Gee became a vibrant member of Impact Life Centre where Pastors Chauncey & Gwendolyn Fourte’ (her granddaughter & grandson in-love) are the Senior Pastors. Gee loved to pray and read God’s Word. She attended ILC corporate prayer meeting every Wednesday night. She also enjoyed going to Cedarcrest Nursing home with her grandchildren to minister words of encouragement and pray for the elderly. Her heart of generosity was endless. On Wednesday, December 21, 2016, Gee suffered a massive stroke in which she would later transition to be with her Lord on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 2:41pm.
