Harold Daniel Herbig's Obituary
Harold Daniel Herbig Jr. passed from this world on December 14, 2013 after a long illness. He was born on April 21, 1929 in Colorado Springs, CO to Harold Daniel Herbig Sr. and Ruth Herbig (Wilson). When he was a young boy, his father died of tuberculosis. Ruth took Harold and his little brother Jack back to El Campo, Texas to be close to her family. He attended Texas A&M in College Station. Commissioned as a First Lieutenant, he served in Korea. He later graduated with a degree in Science. He wed Ruth Ann Steele on August 4, 1956 at the First Methodist Church in Trinity, Texas.Their early married years were spent in small towns throughout Texas on seismograph crews for Cities Service Oil Company. The young couple brought three children into the world during this time, Rebecca, Eric and Kathryn. In 1965, they left Texas behind and relocated to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. When the company relocated to Tulsa in 1970, and the Herbigs moved to Broken Arrow. They joined St. Stephens United Methodist Church in 1972.Ruth Ann passed away in 2005 after a long battle with Parkinsons disease. Eric passed away in 2012.He is survived by: his daughter Rebecca Herbig of Grapevine, TX, daughter Kathryn Witzel, son-in-law Randy Witzel and grandson Trey Witzel all of Oklahoma City and his granddaughter Erica Herbig of Broken Arrow. He also leaves behind his long time friend, Barbara Waltrip, of Plano, TX. Together they enjoyed traveling and attending Texas A&M football games.Harold’s celebration of life will take place on Friday, January 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church, 400 W. New Orleans St., Broken Arrow, OK, 74011. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen’s UMC in his name.
