I remember so well the great sense of humor Uncle Harold always had and how much fun the camping trips were. What wonderful memories! Most of all though I think about his example of true servanthood and his love of family. Uncle Harold never ended a conversation without an "I love you" and you knew he truly meant it. Oh, Daddy, how I miss you so much. But I'm so happy that you now "have your mind back", like sweet Meshelle said. At least now you will suffer no more. All I can think of us how Mother vowed to be there for you so she could care for you, and she made it. She was by your bedside as often as she could and sang your song, "You Are My Sunshine" every day. I know you heard us talking to you and knew we were there to the end. I missed your stories and jokes, even if they were repeat stories. We never tired of them. I wish I could be hearing them again. We all love you so much and know how much you loved all of us too. Being the first grandchild of Joe and Oda, and only 8 months younger than their youngest, I grew up with my aunts and uncles being more like my brothers and sisters. When I was very young, occasionally, my grandparents would take me to church with them at College Hill. I remember feeling so proud that my uncle sang in the choir. I have a welcome sign on my front porch and another in the hallway that Harold made with his woodworking ability. I had kept a wooden powder bowl most of my life that he made for my mother, Sis, while he was in high school. I gave it to Harold and Jayne the last time they visited us in Tulsa. I'll meet you in heaven and we'll sing with the angels. Your niece Pat.
The last time I saw Uncle Harold was in 1972 when I was on vacation from the Army before going to South Carolina. He met my Wife Martina and daughter Bonnie L. We had an Icecream Party at his house with all of the family which will never be forgotten. We have Emailed quite a few times in the past. We had the same occupation as truck drivers but in different countries. Exchanging expieiriences was our main subect. Too bad that I never got to see him again because of the distances between us. The most important thing my Daddy taught me was to Love, Respect and to Kiss my mother every time I left.Daddy I miss you so much because I am not through having you teach me how to live my life.
Although I have not seen Uncle Harold since one of our Stewart family reunions several years ago, he was always a very special great uncle! One of my favorite memories was the first time he came to our house dressed as Santa Claus and although at the age of 11, I knew who he was, he totally lit up the season and my little sisters and brother were totally mesmerized! I always loved telling that story about when Max recognized Daddy. And Max and Daddy had that Little Rascals thing – wiggling the hand under the chin.
His family liked to go visit at mail time too and visit with everyone in there. Card games and dominoes – he never tired of playing games. He loved you both too I know. You were a true friend. Love you guys, Carole
