Harry Louis Ashworth Jr's Obituary
Harry Louis Ashworth Jr. passed away on September 4, 2022, at the age of 92, one month before his 93rd birthday. Harry was born to Harry and Frances Ashworth in Evansville, IN, on September 29, 1929. He was raised in Carmi, IL, where he accepted Christ as his Savior in Sunday school at age eleven. After serving in the United States Air Force from 1948-1952, he married his high school sweetheart Ferris Ann, and the two established a home in Tulsa, OK, where Harry attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics and eventually began working as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office. Although Harry’s wife Ferris Ann was told she would not be able to bear children due to surviving tuberculosis, God blessed their marriage with three daughters and a son. Harry and Ferris Ann raised their children to love God and served in their church in various ways. Harry led the singing and directed choirs for over 45 years.
Harry retired from the post office after 38 years. He loved singing with the Tulsa Barbershop Chorus and building his own ultralight airplane. Harry also enjoyed serving his church, Eastland Baptist Church, as a choir member, deacon, church greeter, cleaning crew, Sunday school song leader, and in any other way he could be used. In his last year, Harry lived at Town Village Tulsa, but even though he wasn’t physically able to serve in his church, he still had a ministry to those around him, especially the nurses that visited him daily.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Ferris Ann, 20 years ago, as well as two great grandchildren, Stephanie Ellis and Charity Alvis. Having “finished his course,” he has passed the responsibility of promoting Christ’s kingdom to his four children and their spouses: Cyndy and Wayne Ellis, Alicia and Tom Alvis, Melody and Mark Gensheimer, and Monte and Angie Ashworth; 26 grandchildren and spouses: Daniel and Bekah Ellis, Ryan Ellis, Nathan and Jen Ellis, Brandon and Hannah Ellis, Kaitlynn Ellis, Tommy and Ashley Alvis, Christina and Phillip Kauthen, Kimberly and Gray Norman, Rachel and Calum Jacobs, Evan and Abbey Murta, Haley and John Esche, Emily and Jordan Maynard, and Mitchell and Anna Ashworth; 23 great grandchildren: Lydia, Noah, and Jonah Ellis; Jack, Peter, Henry, Edward, and William Alvis; Kaylee, Brinlee, and Emslee Kauthen; Chloe, Lillyann, Ruby, and Graycen Norman; Cooper, Wyatt, and Arianna Jacobs; Ella Murta; Ellison, Beckett, and Juniper Maynard; and Theodore Ashworth.
Visitation will be at Floral Haven Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, 3:00-7:00 P.M. A viewing will be held at Eastland Baptist Church, 1835 S 129th E Ave, on Friday, September 9, 2022, from noon to 1:00 P.M. with the funeral service at 1:00 P.M.
