Hazel Slocum's Obituary
Hazel Marie Slocum, 77, was born on June 29, 1941 to Luther and Kathleen Glover. Hazel was the oldest of two children, Danny being her younger sibling.In the 60s, Hazel met married Gene Slocum. Almost immediately, they began serving God together in multiple ministry formats. They operated a drup home and rescued many young people, who in the mid to late 60s suffered from drug and alcohol addictions- many of whom still contact them today in loving appreciation. From there they started a non-denominational church in Redding, California. Gene and Hazel were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Diana Slocum. Through tragic circumstances, Diana died at the age of 19.Professionally, Hazel was an accomplished Accountant while Gene worked odd jobs as a handy man. Hazel went back to college to study Nursing. Again, expressing her deep desire to serve and help the broken. Celebrating years of successful ministries, Hazel and Gene moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be closer to Gene’s family and aging parents. Some of her most precious times were spent loving and caring for her many grand-children and great grand-children with gifts of crochet and knitting. Hazel held employment at St. Francis Hospital for many years. Hazel and Gene, never losing their intensity to trust themselves to God’s care as they went further into ministry continued as spiritual counselors. Hazel and Gene have participated in several church families in the Tulsa and Broken Arrow communities. Currently they are members of Victory Christian Center and have spent a substantial amount of hours counseling and caring for the homeless and needy at the Dream Center in Northern Tulsa.Hazel has struggled with her health for several years, but trusting in Jesus, she never slowed down in her efforts to love and care for others. Hazel’s greatest thrill was to consider everyone as her kids.In sweet loving memory, we look forward to seeing Hazel again.Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 5 pm – 7pm.Services will take place at 10 am on Friday, May 3 at Floral Haven Chapel.
