I have known Heidi for 15 years. She was my very best friend and she will be greatly missed. We shared a lot of great moments together .

Sending most sincere sympathy to Heidi. She will be missed. RIP dear one. Susan “Dale” Ross from the RP Yahoo Group long ago.
Although we only got to meet only once in person, Heidi and I have “known” each other for 20 years. We met on a Relapsing Polychondritis support website (Don had RP) where she was busily helping and encouraging everybody. I remember she was buying teddy bears on sale, with her own money, to send to anybody in the group who had to be hospitalized.
She was an unique person. Heidi has been, and I think always will be, my only friend that had a German-Oklahoma accent. Christmas packages from her always included some of Don’s woodwork and some kind of German chocolate. I’m so glad I got to meet her and Don when they came to Hawaii. She was impressed by how much more everything, especially housing, was here.
She and Don were very special to each other. I think it was because he was the one that helped her to learn to live after an abusive past, and that always creates special bonds. I know she was ferocious in making sure Don had the best medical care and best doctors she could find and she knew as much about RP than any of us who actually had it.
I will miss hearing her Oklahoma-GermAn accent on the phone and I can only imagine how much you all will miss her.
