Helen Dolores English's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Helen Dolores English
Helen Dolores Ash English, a resident of Tulsa, passed away on January 20, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on March 6, 1930, to Dan and Ardith Ash.
Helen met her husband, Walter English, in 1946. They were married November 20, 1949. Walter served in the army from 1952 - 1954 so they lived in California during that time and Helen worked as a typist at the base. They returned to Shawnee and soon started their family.
Helen joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) on May 6, 1965, and was an active member for 50 years, achieving KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly). She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, listening to music (Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett), playing board and card games, keeping up with people and watching video clips of old TV shows on Facebook, and loved watching her Dallas Cowboys and Sooners, rooting them on even in their losing times. She lived at assisted living for a little more than a year and enjoyed making new friendships.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter English, infant daughter Laura Ellen English, son Jeffrey Douglas English, and sister Carole Myers.
She is survived by her two daughters, Liz Rice and husband Earle, and Cindy Wiegers and husband, Chris; grandchildren Chris Rice and wife Jenny, Brian Rice and wife Ashleigh, Austin Jones and wife Shelby, Sarah Jones and husband Corey, Jeremy Jones and wife Taylor, Shawn Wiegers and wife Brynna, Tanner Wiegers and Makenzie Wiegers; great grandchildren: Iris Jones, Natalie Jones, Zoe Rice, Michael Wiegers, Hudson Jones, Archie Jones, as well as several nieces and nephews that will miss her dearly.
