Helen Geneva Marrs' Obituary
Helen Geneva (Cook) Marrs was born at home, March 18, 1914, in Barnsdall, OK, the daughter of William Morrison and Lizzie Etta (Stafford) Cook. She entered the gates of heaven on February 4, 2010, at the age of 95 years, 10 months, 16 Days. She spent her younger years with her family in the old town of Keystone, OK. She loved recalling happenings and the happy times of those years. Those who knew her heard of learning to walk again with her little sister after a tragic streetcar accident, starring roles in school operettas, and basketball games where she was the “running center”. After high school, she loved spending time with her sister, Martela, in Tulsa. It was there that she met Earl B. Marrs. They were married March 17, 1935 and celebrated 61 years together until his death , January 1, 1997. The Couple was blessed with three children, Philip Marsh, Susan Erlinda, and Daniel Michael. She thoroughly enjoyed her role as a wife and mother. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, all of her siblings; Neal Cook, Reva Cook, Gladys (Cook) Summers, Martela (Cook)Lang, Edwin Cook, and Leona Cook McCarter. She is survived by her children Philip and wife Linda Marrs of Crystal Lake, Illinois; Susan and husband Charles Perry of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and Dan and wife Kathleen Marrs of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Also surviving are grandchildren Michael Reust, Derek Reust, Melissa Rae (Marrs) Bartosovsky, Stephen Marrs and Sarah Marrs and great-grandchildren, Quinn Reust and Adele Reust. The funeral service was held at the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow on February 5, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. Performing the service will be Rev. Nick Garland. Pallbearers will be Stephen Marrs, David Cook, Eddie Cook, Doug Meyer, Joel Lewellen and Charles Hulbert. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Oasis Class of First Baptist CHurch, Derek Reust, Melissa Rae Bartosovsky, and Sarah Marrs. Helen loved her Lord and spent many years serving Him as a Sunday School teacher. She would tell anyone she met of how she loved Jesus and was a witness of His love to all. She entertained many visiting ministers with her wonderful meals and hospitality. She wanted everyone she knew to come to know Jesus as Savior.
