I just learned of Herald's death. He and I enjoyed some hilarious adventures — such as when he served as president of the Tulsa Wheelmen bicycle club and I was VP and we antagonized the group's founders by making peace with the arch-rival Tulsa Bicycle Club.Or our multiple forays on FreeWheel, the Tulsa World's bicycle ride across Oklahoma. Herald enjoyed making an annual multi-media presentation with slides that anticipated what everybody does now with PowerPoint.I am saddened hear of his passing. He was a visionary and an adventurer. And a good friend.

Many years ago Dan and I had the pleasure of meeting Herald and Debbie at church where we were attending. I also had the pleasure of keeping Janae when she was a baby in my home. She and my son were buds early on! We moved away from Tulsa in1985 and for the first few years after kept in touch. Sad to say life got busier and we went through too many years out of touch. A few years ago we reconnected through Facebook and kept in touch. We were so saddened by the news of Herald's illness with ALS. But we soon learned Herald continued to live life grand. He adapted to his illness and shared his heart and soul with anyone who would listen. And listen we did! He made us think! Our hearts hurt for the absence of this good man for all who knew and loved him, especially Debbie, Janae and Jansen. Herald will always be a light in our hearts and a reminder to never be too busy to care! He cared deeply for all he touched and wanted to have an impact! He lived life large! Not for himself but others!

I met Harold twenty some years ago through our networking group, TBC. God sent me an angel through Harold to help my business with all things electronic. He was so professional, articulate, detailed and meticulous in everything I ask him to do for me. He always went above and beyond. You did not have to ask if he was a believer. His life reflected his faith. I was blessed that God allowed our paths to cross here in this life and will see you again on the other side my friend. RIP Nancy Siegel Dirks

Herald was a gifted leader, and great friend. At the WRHS 75th Anniversary Celebration, while he could no longer speak, his infectious smile said more than a thousand words could say. Long years ago, when a strong back was needed to lift a cheerleader onto his shoulders, Herald was the one. When we needed a great photograph for the Lariat, there were two photographers who we could always count on for great work, and Herald was always willing to lend his talents from the newspaper to make it happen when Steve Farwell was overloaded. Together, they made the book come alive. Herald's creative vision and compassion for others will be missed by all who knew him.

I attended Calvary Baptist Church growing up and Herald was part of the youth group in junior high and high school. For a time, we were on a team writing, editing and producing a Youth newspaper. I'm sure we clowned around a lot while doing our chores of getting the paper out. We used to love the printing part on the old mimeograph machine. We went different directions at Will Rogers H.S. – he worked on the school newspaper and I was on the Lariat staff. Still we had an easy friendship all through the following decades. At our 10th reunion, Herald produced a video of our classmates using the music "The Way We Were". It was the hit of the reunion and was requested to be played again at subsequent reunions. I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Herald. I have had the honor of knowing Herald for many years, not only through Leadership Tulsa, but also through some of his work with systems installations. He was tireless – dedicated to doing what is right no matter the work or time involved. Truly one of the most caring, giving people. He is probably in heaven right now volunteering and stepping in to do whatever is needed. My thoughts and prayers go to his family for strength and healing during this blessed season.
