Herschel Benjamin Palmer's Obituary
On May 13th, 2015, God took a hard working man and told him his job was done, it was his time to come home. December 18, 1920 in Pierce, Oklahoma a baby boy was born to Ruby & Benjamin Palmer and they named him Herschel. He received his education in Pierce and later moved to Oklahoma City where he was drafted into the Army and fought in WWII. He served one tour of duty and moved to Tulsa and found employment with American Airlines, first as an aircraft cleaner and then promoted to a mechanic for 30 years, he retired in 1983. Many who worked with him at AA said that he was the best-dressed aircraft cleaner, he never wore the company uniform cap- he wore his own hat. He went dancing almost every weekend at the Blue Moon and was also known throughout Tulsa for his style, accumulating a collection of 80 pairs of shoes, 20 hats and 18 leather coats. Although he retired in 1983 it didn’t mean that he slowed down, in fact, Herschel loved everything beautiful and his attention turned quickly toward carpentry, his well manicured lawn and gardening. Herschel was married twice before his current marriage of 34 years to Joyce E. Palmer. He had four daughters- Cynthia Ferguson, Rhonda Keets, Lisa Palmer and his step daughter Joi Gordon. He also had 11 grandchildren (Kamaria, Jamila, Maurico, Malaysia, Joshua, Julia, Cameo, Kamera, Alfred, Sydney and Nicholas) and 12 great grandchildren (Keith, Landon, Cortez, Kamarion, Maurico Jr., Emerie, Makenzy, Eyan, Gabrielle, Kahiyah, Chace, and Zuri).
