Hugh Hood's Obituary
Hugh Edwin Hood suddenly left this life on October 16th, 2019. He and his best, furry pal Buddy, who passed with him, were travelling from their home in Broken Arrow to Hugh’s law practice in Idabel. Hugh was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 14th, 1965, to Jim and Louise Hood. He was proudly known as his family’s Valentine baby. He was the youngest of four children, two boys and two girls, their “little brother.” Hugh attended school from kindergarten through his senior year in Broken Arrow and graduated high school in 1983. He attended Oklahoma State University where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Finance in 1987. He attended the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he wrote for the Energy Law Journal. He graduated from there with his Juris Doctor in 1992. His legal career included former State’s Attorney for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, former partner of the Street Law Firm, and most recently, an attorney for the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System in Southeastern Oklahoma. He also maintained a private practice in Tulsa, focusing on family law and mediation. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Chairman of Lawyers Helping Lawyers assistance committee, a member of the Muskogee (Creek) Nation Tribal Bar Association, and a mediator. Hugh was a true participant of life, never afraid to learn something new. Welding, furniture making, photography, wood turning and sailing were just a few of his talents and interests. He could repair anything and do it well, from remodeling a house, building a workshop, to repairing a tractor. YouTube instructional videos were his go-to, but much of his technical ability he learned and inherited from his dad, Jim. A voracious reader, Hugh’s interests ranged from philosophy to science. He was constantly curious and questioning. Hugh’s greatest loves were his family, friends, and of course his rescue pups and cats. His dog Heidi, who eventually became immortalized in Hugh’s homemade Heidi Beer, his dog Jack, Jack the cat, Rosco the cat, Spike the cat, and his final furry companion, Buddy. All enriched Hugh’s life and he theirs. Hugh was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend, a role model to all. He was always there to lend a hand, create something new, or set off on an adventure. His personality was contagious, and he never met a stranger. His positive attitude was one that sets an example for all. He would expect us to love and enjoy even the smallest moments in life. Hugh is survived by his parents, Jim and Louise Hood, his sister Linda and her husband Danny, brother Larry and his wife Linda, sister Joan and her husband Greg, nieces and nephews, Damon and his wife Camille, Steven and his wife Julie, Katy and her husband Devin, Scott, Allison, Allen & Fiancé Lindsey, Spencer, great-niece Ruby, great-nephews Carson and Fincher, and many other very special family members and friends. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, October 26 at Floral Haven Funeral Home.In Lieu of Flowers please send memorials to:
