Inder Raj Singhal's Obituary
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Inder Raj Singhal, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle to his adoring family. He was born in Punjab, India, on January 12, 1939 and passed peacefully on June 24, 2014. His life was marked by his loving, selfless and generous nature which continues to inspire his family and friends. He grew up in India where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Math and inspired many of his students to love math as he did. He immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1963, and then the United States, to work in Salem, Oregon and San Francisco, California as a Systems Analyst. American Airlines recruited him to Tulsa in 1970, which he made his home for over forty years. He earned his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Tulsa. He loved Tulsa and spoke often of the kindness and generosity of the people here. During his 25 years at American Airlines, he won numerous awards and was a key designer of SABRE reservation systems, the basis of airline reservation systems used worldwide. He is survived by his wife, Swarna Singhal, his wife of 47 years. He was a continual support to her and encouraged her to earn her Ph.D. at age 63. He supported all his daughters in their education. His eldest daughter, Geeta, is a pediatrician, his second daughter, Vani, is an attorney, and his youngest daughter, Sujata, is a talented educator. He is survived by his loving sons-in-law, Rajesh Chandwaney and Piyuse Das, his cherished grandchildren, Meera, Maya, Siddharth and Avani, and numerous doting nieces, nephews, sister, brother and friends. While we will miss him dearly, we are blessed by the time we had with this remarkable man. We are truly better people because of him. Please join us to celebrate his life on Saturday, June 28, 10:00 a.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home. He loved all children, so in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made in his memory to the Tulsa Children’s Museum.
