Isabella Narcissus Waddles Fields' Obituary
People that have humble beginnings typically live extraordinary lives. This was the case for a tiny baby girl born on a stormy night on August 29, 1951. Her older brother set on foot to alert their maternal grandmother to assist their mom, Mary, with the birth as she lay on the kitchen floor in labor. Sometime during the night, Isabella Narcissus Waddles (Young) arrived as a champion. She was the daughter of Mary Ann Anderson Waddles and Lee Roy Young. She was the final child for Mary Ann as number 13 of living children and the only child of her father, Lee Roy. She proudly carried the Waddles name, but became jubilant to be a Young as she spent time with her father.
She was fondly called Bell growing up. Very early in life she knew the importance of having a personal and child-like relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was baptized at a young age at Mount Bethel No. 2 Baptist Church in Keithville, LA, where she attended faithfully in her youth. Later she went on to attend Greenwood No. 1 Baptist Church in Greenwood, LA, Word of Faith and Word of Life in Shreveport, LA, Mount Olive Baptist Church in Sapulpa, OK, and finally Church on the Move in Tulsa, OK until she wasn’t unable to attend in person anymore. Every night she spent time on her knees in prayer and she taught her children to do the same. Her prayers were earnest for the needs of her family, friends, and the world, and celebratory of the triumphs of God’s breakthroughs and blessings in everyone’s lives.
She attended Walnut Hill throughout her school days. This is where she met her future sweetheart in first grade. There are so many funny and playful stories of this budding relationship as it grew over the years. During her time in school, she was a part of the Marching Band as a clarinetist. She was also a dancer and an actress in school plays. She always had a heart and passion for education. She always said that she didn’t want to marry a dumb man, and she didn't. So, she was ecstatic to marry her first and only love Gregory Fields Sr. on March 29, 1970 during their first year at Grambling University, where she was pursuing a career as a teacher. The two together brought into the world 4 wonderful children: Serina, Tawanna, Gregory Jr., and Samantha.
Later in life, she went back to school to continue to pursue her career in education by attending Oral Roberts University, while being an Early Education Teacher impacting hundreds of children’s lives. Today, two of her children, a grandson, and her husband honor her by being a part of the Educational process for this generation of children.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Roy Young, her mother, Mary Ann Anderson Waddles, both her affectionate parents by marriage that she called Mom and Dad, Jim W. Fields Sr. and Clara Mae Jackson Fields, three sisters: Mary S. (Pie), Mathile (Molly), and Lela, and six brothers: Tom, M. L., Joe, Bobby, Brown, and James.
She has left behind her loving husband Gregory Fields Sr., her four children: Serina Fields, Tawanna (Ricky) Treat, Gregory Jr. (Judy) Fields, and Samanatha Fields, and her grandchildren: Benjamin Fields, Patrick (Kiersten) Fields, Nicholas (Emily) Treat, and Kaidyn Fields. And, great grandchildren, one especially that she adored, Joshua Treat. She also left behind 3 living sisters: Ella Mae Luke (Baby Sister), Mary Helen Waddles (Ethel), and Dorothy Mae Harris (D'Jessica). She left behind her much loved siblings (by marriage): Doris (Bruce) Woods, Joyce (Albert) Bryant, Marilyn (John) Dixon, and Jim Jr. (Kamala) Fields, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Isabella’s legacy has sprouted roots and extends beyond her life and into the lives of many. Her love and commitment as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend was unconditional and without reservation. She gave fully of her being to everyone, sometimes not leaving things for herself. She was funny, charismatic, and highly intelligent. She has planted and leaves behind little seeds (gifts) that are not yet opened, but her life's work remains as fertilizer to enrich the soil for years to come. And now, we that are left behind will be able to see the maturation of her good works.
Her legacy will continue.
The visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 31st at Floral Haven Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 12:30 PM, Thursday, February 1st, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
