Jack Bruin's Obituary
Jack Bruin, 89, of Tulsa, died on Friday, April 18, 2014. He was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, on June 12, 1924, the son of A. A. “Dutch” and Olive Bruin. He attended the University of Illinois, graduating in 1949, earning a Bachelor of Science/Engineering Degree. Following his graduation, he was an engineer for the Illinois State Water Survey, Urbana, Illinois, for seven years, then for Layne Western Company as a manager, where he served for 27 years, before his retirement in 1983. After retirement, he was involved in traveling, Airstream Club, WBCCI, Wally Byam Club, and the President of the Iowa chapter in 1989. He had lived in Batavia, Illinois, Ames, Iowa, Mesa, Arizona, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. He had been involved in the Iowa Engineering Society, having served as president in 1970, Ames Rotary Club, as director, in Ames, Iowa, On June 7, 1947, the married Doris Hoge, in Chicago, Illinois. He had been a member of First Methodist Church, Batavia, Illinois, Northminster Presbyterian, Ames, Iowa, and Asbury United Methodist Church, in Tulsa. His service to the church included teaching a 6th grade Sunday school class. He had served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal. Jack enjoyed flying and doing crafts. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Bruin, daughters, Marilyn Bruin, Karin Bruin, and Diane Lang, and her husband, Christopher, five grandchildren, Joel Biggs, Lisa Ceballos, Justin Biggs, Kathryn Lang, and Jaime Lang, and two great-grandchildren, Javier Ceballos, and Sidney Ceballos.
