Jack Coxen's Obituary
In Loving Memory of “Fat Jack” Coxen
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jack Coxen, affectionately known as "Fat Jack", by those closest to him. Jack was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio on December 26, 1944, and departed this world from his Claremore, Oklahoma residence on April 13, 2024, with his loving family by his side.
Jack was born to parents Clyde Calvin Coxen and Ada “Marie” (Buzzard) Coxen. He grew up alongside one brother, Jimmy. Jack was always a dynamic and free-spirited individual from the very beginning. The Coxen family moved around quite a bit as Jack was growing up, living in multiple states. Jack lived in Ohio for about 3 years before his family relocated to Oklahoma. Jack graduated high school in 1962. After completing high school, he secured employment with Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG) as a Corrosion Control Specialist and retired after 34 years of service.
In 1965, he met his best friend and the absolute love of his life, Marilyn Burden. Jack and Marilyn met at Jubilee City in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where they both worked in their early years. The second Jack laid eyes on Marilyn; he knew that he had to ask her out. They began dating and the rest was history. Jack and Marilyn married on January 7, 1966, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They were married for 42 years until her passing in 2008. During their union, they were blessed with a daughter: Kelli. Jack was a devoted husband and father, going above and beyond to make sure his family was always taken care of. Jack and Marilyn traveled the world extensively and enjoyed many adventures together throughout the years. They were both always ready for the next journey that may come their way.
Jack dabbled in photography during his high school years and grew to love it. This led to him becoming a professional wedding photographer to many couples in the area. He especially loved bass-fishing in his free time and being on the lake. Additionally, he also liked attending Oktoberfest and doing his famous chicken dance. He enjoyed making others laugh and truly never met a stranger. Jack was a bold force in this world. He touched the lives of many with his vibrant spirit and infectious smile. He will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Coxen, his brother Jimmy Coxen, and his parents Clyde and Marie Coxen. He is survived by his daughter Kelli Brown and husband Mark of Claremore, OK; his two granddaughters: Alyssa Holmes and husband Tyler of Claremore, OK; and Ashlyn Brassfield and husband Kyle of Claremore, OK. Jack also leaves behind his beloved great-granddaughter Raegan Brassfield as well as numerous nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.
