Jack Lynam's Obituary
Jack Dean Lynam, 87 of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed peacefully from this life and entered heaven’s gates on Thursday, September 19, 2019, after a brief illness with family by his side. He was born May 28, 1932, in Parsons, Kansas to his parents, Leslie Earl Lynam and Emma Capitola Moore Lynam. He grew up near Parsons on a farm and as a teenager worked at a car dealership in town. He played high school and American Legion baseball once throwing Mickey Mantle out at first base. He attended Parsons Junior College before entering the Air Force and served in Germany during the Korean War. After returning to the United States, he started his career at Cities Service Oil Company in Bartlesville. He transitioned with the company to Tulsa and worked there until his retirement in 1987. He married the love of his life, Maxine Lynam in 1957, and they shared over 55 years together before her passing in October 2012.Jack enjoyed participating in and watching sports. He was an excellent baseball player in his youth and after starting his career played high level fast pitch softball. He was an above average golfer and a high handicap bowler on the CITGO sponsored traveling team. One of Jack’s biggest passions was keeping a meticulous yard. He loved the finished product of a freshly cut and edged yard which he did himself until his early 80’s. Jack’s greatest joy, besides his family, was being active in his church. As a long time member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and, more recently, Village Community Church, Jack served on various committees and leadership and teaching roles.Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Emma; his wife, Maxine; and his son, Jeffery Dean. He is survived by his son, Mickey Lynam and his wife Teri, of Plano, Texas; his daughter, Cindy Sawyer and her husband William Sawyer, MD, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; Erin Lee McCormack and her husband Parker, Katie Beth Lynam, Stephen W. Sawyer, MD, and his wife Brooke, Christopher D. Sawyer and his wife Ashley, and Jason B. Sawyer; four great-grandchildren; Everett W. Sawyer, Carter M. Sawyer, Emmy Wise McCormack and Blakely Scott McCormack, and a host of friends and extended family.Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Floral Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2019, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens with military honors by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
