Jack Slack's Obituary
Jack Franklin Slack, 86, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, after a battle with cancer. He was born November 2, 1932, in Oaks, Oklahoma, to his parents, James Richard Slack and Rusha Onstott Slack. Jack was married to Edie Slack with whom he shared over 23 beautiful years together.Jack was an Infantryman in the United States Marine Corps, which included participation in operations against the enemy in southern and central Korea in 1951-1952, and service in Japan from 1952-1953. Achieving the rank of Sergeant, Jack completed his military service in 1954 in California and thereafter moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and began his career at Dover Corporation, Norris Division. He retired from Dover in 2003 after completing 49 years as the company’s Data Processing Manager. Upon retirement, Jack spent much of his time, golfing, traveling with Edie to visit various locales all over the world, and spending quality time with their family, extended families and many dear friends. The latter reflected what he most loved, with the exception of his love of golfing placing a very, very close second.Jack is survived by his loving wife, Edie Slack, of the home; two sons, Russell Slack and his wife, Valarie, of Windermere, Florida, and Mike Slack and his wife, Vicki, of Smyrna, Tennessee; one daughter, Kathy Fultz and her husband, Tom, of Owasso, Oklahoma; four sisters, Doris Welch, Peggy Wynn, Betty Wisenhunt and Joyce Watts; six grandchildren, Jennifer McCord, Sarah Latta, Preston Slack, Quinton Slack, Emily Slack and Logan Slack; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pat and Ruth; brother, Jim; grandson, Michael; and his first wife, Linnea Slack.Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2019, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Larry Delay officiating. Viewing will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2019, with family receiving friends from 3-5 p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard, with a reception to be held afterwards at the Floral Haven Family Center.
