Jack passed away on 14 June 2022, at the age of 90 due to an ongoing battle with Parkinson's disease. Just like he dealt with all experiences in his life, Jack managed his illness with strength, poise and faith always wanting to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren, who he both loved and admired more than anything else in the world.
Born in Grenola, Kansas to Garrett and Faye Stegelman, Jack spent his childhood and youth playing sports, hunting, fishing and helping his dad at the family-owned gas station and auto shop. After high school Jack enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and was trained as an airman on the B-29 Super fortress. In 1952, he deployed to Japan where he would fly 38 combat missions supporting the Korean war.
After the completion of his service with the Air Force, Jack returned to Wichita, Kansas where he took a position supporting military aircraft production with the Boeing company. During his time in Wichita, he would travel back to Grenola on weekends where, on one such occasion, he met his sister Rita's, schoolteacher and future wife, Voncille McGee. They were married on 28 June 1958 in Elmore City, Oklahoma.
In 1959, Jack and Von moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he took a position with American Airlines. During his career with American Jack held positions in the electronic assembly, test and evaluation department and later as an instructor in the training department which led to many travel trips worldwide. After 36 years with the company, Jack retired in 1995.
During retirement Jack did not remain idle, he took up hobbies to include woodworking, fishing, hunting, gardening and automotive restoration. He and his wife also spent many hours on the road visiting their children and grandchildren located throughout the country.
Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years Voncille, sister Rita Rush, son Michael and his wife Sherri and their children Christopher, Megan, Georgia and Brinkley Anne Stegelman, his daughter Lisa and her husband Ron and children Quinn and Quaid Stegelman along with a great-grandchild Finn. He was also a long-time devoted parishioner of Eastwood Baptist Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, June 20, 2022, at Eastwood Baptist Church.
