Jacklyn Christine Cooksey's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jacklyn Christine (Hall) Cooksey, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted servant of Jesus Christ. Jackie, as she was affectionately known, was born in Jenks, Oklahoma, on January 25, 1941, and left this world peacefully on February 6, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving family. She was a dynamic force of nature—bold, joyful, and full of life. Her presence was impossible to ignore, and her love left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jackie was the cherished daughter of Juanita Ollie Roberts and was later adopted by her father, Thomas Stinson Hall. From an early age, she was spirited and independent, traits that followed her throughout her life. She met the love of her life, Sammy Dale Cooksey, and though his Pentecostal parents weren’t so sure about this “worldly” young woman who wore makeup and lifeguarded in a swimsuit, her heart of gold quickly proved them wrong. Sam and Jackie fell deeply in love and married in November 1960. Their love story was one for the ages—they held hands constantly, through every season of life, even until the very end.
Jackie was the proud and devoted mother of two sons, Gregory “Greg” and Samuel “David” Cooksey. Being an only child, she had no idea what she was doing when it came to raising boys, but she poured her whole heart into them. She famously told the family that, following the doctor’s advice, she would give baby Greg a little whiskey to help him sleep since he constantly climbed out of bed—something she laughed about for years. In her eyes, her boys could do no wrong, and she bragged endlessly about how perfect they were. (The rest of the family, however, knew the truth.)
Beyond her family, Jackie’s greatest love was for her Savior, Jesus. She shared her faith with a boldness and passion that was impossible to ignore, telling anyone and everyone about Him. She wanted people to know The Lord the way she did. This calling led her and Sam to the mission field in Mexico, though it wasn’t an easy decision for her. When Sam first told her he felt called to go, she told him he could go, but she wasn’t. A year later, after much prayer, Jackie finally agreed, and they sold everything to serve for 13 years in Ciudad Victoria and Saltillo, Mexico. Though she never quite mastered the Spanish language, she got along just fine—and even in her last days, she was known to mix Spanish and English in conversation, which was always endearing.
After their time in Mexico, they moved to Texas, where they served at Hill Country Christian Church for 12 years, before continuing to travel across the U.S. for Sam’s work as a scrub tech. They lived with Greg and his family in Washington for a time before settling in Oklahoma, where they spent over 20 years with David and his family. Jackie worked for a short time as a cook at Kimberly-Clark, where she proved she could make a gourmet meal out of nothing. The only problem? She never wrote down her recipes and rarely managed to recreate the same dish twice! Her family will forever miss her cooking, but even more, they will miss the way she made every meal feel like coming home.
Jackie had a big personality—she was loud, bold, and full of joy. She was quite literally the life of the party and never hesitated to let people know what she thought. If she loved you (and she loved many), you’d get special Jackie love pats on the forearm, almost like a pinch on the cheek. Her Oklahoma family affectionately called her “The Princess and the Pea” and described her as “Spicy”—a nickname she knew about because they told her right to her face. Jackie loved games and would get loud and excited while playing. She loved coloring, music, playing the piano, and reading her Bible—until Alzheimer’s slowly made it difficult for her to do so.
Jackie and Sam shared a once-in-a-lifetime love, and after nearly 64 years of marriage, Sam passed away on May 21, 2024. Though her family continued to spoil and care for her in his absence, Jackie was never quite the same without him. In her final years, she lived at Franciscan Villa, where she found joy in vanilla milkshakes—a treat no visitor was allowed to forget when visiting her!
Jackie was deeply loved, and her legacy of faith, love, and laughter will live on forever in those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sammy Dale Cooksey, and her parents, Thomas and Juanita Hall. She is survived by her sons, Gregory Stinson Cooksey (Kari) and Samuel “David” Cooksey (Tanya); her cherished grandchildren: Gregory (Teresa), Lauren (Freddy Putzeys), Rachel (Blake Ericksen), Anthony (Tori), Michael (Evyn), and Noah; and her eight great-grandchildren (with one on the way!): Samuel, Cole, Avelynn, Macklin, Kennedy, Nora, Hollyn, Ryder, and their soon-to-arrive baby cousin.
Jackie was easy to love, and those who had the honor of loving and caring for her will miss her deeply. While the world is a little quieter without her, we find peace knowing she is reunited with Sam, all the loved ones who passed on before her and her Savior, Jesus Christ.
