James A Blevins' Obituary
James A. Blevins, 81, passed away on March 10, 2025, at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. James was born on August 5, 1943, in Mesa, Arizona. James was the 8th of 12 children of Archie Jack and Evelyn Blevins.
James attended elementary school in Sallisaw and was moved up in 2nd grade and again in 5th grade. He attended high school in Catoosa and was a Senior at 16 years old. He left high school in the spring semester of his Senior year and joined the army (yes, he was too young and yes, there’s a story). He was in the army for 13 months and then returned to Catoosa and married his Hon, Nelda Ruth, on October 27, 1961, in Miami, Oklahoma. They had three children who they loved unconditionally and for which they provided a joyful childhood.
James worked as a draftsman, an oil company engineer where he travelled to Iran and Iraq, and a designer of belt buckles, spurs, and bolero ties. His last job before he retired was as a plumber at Royal Flush, the company he owned with his brother, David.
Any questions that were asked of James were answered without him ever googling anything in his lifetime. He retained information, had great knowledge, and loved to learn. He enjoyed all animals and had many pets through the years. His latest cat, Lil’ Spooky, was named after Nelda. James always said she could be a little spooky by cooking the supper he had been thinking about all day, but never mentioned to her.
James and Nelda were quite the love story and spent many wonderful and happy years at their home in Broken Arrow enjoying their family. James enjoyed collecting many things. His passion was coin collecting. He was a very avid reader and gardener. James had such a loving and giving spirit and would help anybody. He gave from his heart and never expected anything in return. For the last six years, James has dearly missed his Hon, Nelda. He was a wonderful Dad, Gramps, brother, uncle, friend, and Hon. He fought hard to find the strength to continue without her. Now they are together forever.
James is survived by his sisters Brenda Lehenbauer, and Connie Lane and her husband, David. His daughter, Marie Boothe and husband, Russell; daughter, Pamela Been and husband, Cris; son, Scott Blevins and wife, Julie; and grandchildren Carrie and Allen Gorman, Raychal and Josh Santucci, Melissa Boothe, Jake and Sierra Lurvey, Steve Owen, Brooke Lurvey, and great-grandsons, Laundin Gorman and Dominick Gorman.
