James "Jimmy" Lelan Boyd's Obituary
James “Jimmy” Lelan Boyd, 37, of Claremore, Okla., passed away April 24, 2026. He was born May 12, 1988, in Tulsa, Okla., to Terri (Gillum) and Jim Boyd.
He grew up in Tulsa and spent his youth involved in numerous activities. Jimmy played baseball, often coached by his dad during his younger years. He was active in Boy Scouts, beginning as a Tiger Cub in Pack 67. He was a part of Troop 8 where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at age 14. Jimmy remained active in scouting into adulthood. He was a member of the Army JROTC program at Memorial High School where he was a part of Color Guard and competed at nationals.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October of his senior year of high school and after graduation in 2007, he completed basic and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He was honorably discharged in October 2014. During his time in the service, he made countless lifelong friends.
He spent his life working construction, beginning with Magnum Construction as an unskilled laborer the summer before his senior year of high school. After he returned from Army training, he resumed working for Magnum, and he worked for several other companies before joining Crossland Construction Company as a superintendent.
Jimmy loved to hunt and fish. His love for hunting began with deer but rapidly spread to anything that was in season. He was there when his youngest brother got his first deer, took his sister when she obliterated what was once allegedly a dove, and took his daughter and son hunting and fishing whenever they wanted.
He spent a lot of time working on family vehicles, including helping his middle brother keep what originally was their Pa’s truck up and running. He was a great cook and knew how to use a grill. Jimmy forged knives, began building (but only sometimes completed) everything imaginable, and spent a lot of time with friends and family. He helped his daughter get started with welding and bought her everything she needed.
While it may sound like Jimmy did a lot, the highlight of his life was being a father to his daughter, Kenzie.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his grandparents and one brother, Jesse Boyd.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, McKenzie Boyd of Tulsa, Okla.; stepson Jacob Mitchell-Dill of Glenpool, Okla.; parents Terri and Jim Boyd of Tulsa, Okla.; brother John Boyd and wife, Laura, of Tulsa, Okla.; sister Melissa Boyd of Fayetteville, Ark.; brother Billy Boyd of Tulsa, Okla.; niece Amelia and nephew Lincoln; chosen brother and sister Shawn and Karla Eubanks of Tulsa, Okla.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and chosen nieces and nephews; and Christina Boyd, of Claremore, Okla.
Visitation to come and pay your respects to Jimmy will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 5pm-7pm and on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 4pm-7pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home. A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 12:00pm at Floral Havens Funeral Home Chapel.
