Jim Cable's Obituary
Jim Cable, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, passed away on September 4, 2023, at the age of 82. Jim was born on January 14, 1941, in Hayden, Colorado, to his late parents, Ross and Hazel Cable. Jim's life was filled with love and devotion to his family. He married the love of his life, Barbara, on July 3, 1964, and their union was a source of strength and happiness throughout their 59 years together.
Jim is survived by his dedicated wife, Barbara, and their children: son Brad and Stephanie Cable of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma; daughter Cathey and David George of Broken Arrow; daughter Jennie and Mike Herndon of Broken Arrow; and son Zac and Nina Cable of Broken Arrow. His legacy extends to his 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.
Jim spent his formative years in the mountains of Colorado, moving to what would become his hometown of Tulsa, OK later in childhood, where he went on to graduate from Will Rogers High School. From there he attended the University of Oklahoma, where he developed what would become a lifelong love of Sooner football. He ultimately landed at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where he finished his undergraduate studies.
Jim had a colorful and varied career in the oil business, starting as a manager of a chain of gas stations in Arkanasas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. He made stops along the way at several oil companies, but the bulk of his time was spent at Tulco Oils in Tulsa where he was the Division Manager and eventually handled all International Sales.
Jim’s faith was an integral part of his life, and Jim was a faithful member of Tulsa Bible Church. He was a man of strong principles, always putting his family first and leading by example. His dedication to his loved ones was unwavering, and he provided a loving and supportive home for his wife and children. He was known for daily early morning text messages with bible verses that would go out to his children and grandchildren, providing a daily encouragement in their faith.
In his later years, Jim had a passion for woodworking, crafting beautiful pieces of furniture that will be treasured by his family for generations to come. He also had a lifelong love for fast cars, as anyone who rode with him could attest.
Jim Cable's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His stories, kindness, love, and unwavering dedication to his family have left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held Thursday, September 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Tulsa Bible Church, where friends and family can come together to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Tulsa Bible Church in Jim’s honor, as he believed strongly in the power of giving and helping those in need.
Jim Cable will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, faith, and devotion will continue to inspire and uplift his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
