James H. Cobbs' Obituary
James H. Cobbs, a longtime resident of Tulsa, a devout Christian, loving family man, engineer, entrepreneur and innovator passed from this life on January 1, 2020 at the age of 91. He was a charter member of Harvard Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa where he had also served on the Church Board, as a Deacon and an Elder at various times. He also had been a Scout Leader for Troop 73 as well as a Little League baseball coach and manager for his sons’ little league teams.He was born August 25, 1928 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Harold M. and Ella A. (Rouintree) Cobbs. He was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above and his wife of 38 years Charlotte M. (Fisher) Cobbs. He is survived by his second wife of 25 years Mary Cobbs, children Jim Cobbs Jr. (wife Jan), David Cobbs (wife Debra), Greg Cobbs (wife Carrie) and Val Cobbs. There are also 7 grandchildren: Erik Cobbs (wife Lisa), Miranda (Cobbs) Sullivan (husband John), Michael Cobbs (wife Caitlin), Kevin Cobbs, Kelsey Cobbs, Jared Page and Tim Cobbs. His great grandchildren are Connor Sullivan, Ella Sullivan and Katie Paul.He founded Cobbs Engineering, Inc. and over a long career authored or co-authored 19 patents related to the oil and gas industry, as well as large diameter shaft drilling for the mining industry. He also wrote several technical papers over his career related to the same industries.He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held Thursday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Harvard Avenue Christian Church 5502 S. Harvard in Tulsa. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that a comparable donation be made in his name to Harvard Avenue Christian Church.
