James "Jim" G. Barnes' Obituary
James “Jim” G. Barnes, 71 of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed from this life on Friday, February 8, 2019 in a Tulsa hospital with family by his side. He was born June 26, 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia to his parents, Barney E. Barnes and Margie McCormick Barnes. Jim married the love of his life, Becky Reese Barnes on March 1, 1975 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they have shared in over 43 beautiful years together.Jim had a wonderful singing voice. He would often sing in the church choir, in various men’s ensembles and in the car. He was very active in the Men’s Ministry at Redeemer Church and the Stephen Ministry. He shared his faith through his actions and love of singing. He loved meeting with friends over breakfast and watching his granddaughters play soccer. Jim enjoyed reading, swimming, traveling, playing cards, playing golf and watching movies. In his younger years, he was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Jim was also a veteran of the United States Army. He gave the biggest hugs and held the ones he loved close to his heart.Jim is survived by his loving wife, Becky Barnes; two daughters, Derra Leann Meyer and husband Brent of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Ginger Barnes Gasper and husband Ben of Overland Park, Kansas; five grandchildren, Cassody Meyer, Holli Meyer, Karlee Meyer, Gavin Puffer and Landon Gasper; one brother, Barney Edgar Barnes, Jr. of Costa Mesa, California; and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Margie Barnes.A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Redeemer Church, 5415 E. 101st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74137.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org or to Redeemer Church.
