James Leland "Jim" Gray's Obituary
James Leland Gray
February 20, 1930 – September 18, 2023
James Leland Gray, known affectionately as Jim, passed away on September 18, 2023, at the age of 93. He was born on February 20, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, the cherished and only child of Leland and Camilla Gray. Jim graduated from Mansfield High School in Mansfield, Ohio, where he laid the foundation for a life that would be marked by service, dedication, and love.
On July 22, 1949, he married the love of his life, Ruby Elaine French, and their journey together lasted an incredible 74 years, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, showcasing his sense of duty and honor.
A devoted member of the Masonic lodge, Jim achieved the distinguished rank of 33rd degree Mason, embodying the principles of the organization throughout his life. He was also an active member of the Akdar Shrine, deeply involved in their circus and transport unit. Jim found great purpose in transporting sick and injured children to hospitals in Shreveport, Louisiana, demonstrating his compassionate and giving nature.
Jim's professional journey led him to North American Aviation, later known as Boeing, where he held the role of Quality Analyst. A meticulous record keeper and a man of precision, he contributed significantly to the company until his retirement in 1994. His retirement allowed him more time for his beloved hobbies, including deer hunting, woodworking, tending to his immaculate backyard, and passionately following football, particularly cheering for his cherished teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners.
In addition to his professional and community achievements, Jim was a dedicated family man. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and a daughter. He leaves behind a legacy of love survived by his beloved wife, Ruby, and their children: son Robert and wife Helena Gray of California, daughters Lee-Ann Gray and husband Tim Koscinski of Tulsa, and Jennifer and husband Thomas Sunny of Broken Arrow. Jim is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Carrie and husband Mike Marsh, Rebecca Sunny, Stephanie Gray, Christopher and Nathan Gray, along with multiple other grandchildren and great grandchildren who will forever hold his memory dear in their hearts.
A man of gentle demeanor and a great sense of humor, Jim endeared himself to all who knew him. He never needed to raise his voice to make his point, his presence and actions spoke volumes. Jim's passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt, and he will be sorely missed.
Graveside services to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, officiated by Pastor James Lacey. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
