James Irvin Groover's Obituary
James Irvin (Jim) Groover, 89, passed away on August 17, 2022 at home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Jim was surrounded by his loving family during his transition to heaven. Born June 19, 1933 in Jacksonville Florida to Daniel & Irene Groover, Jim was a stand out athlete in Landon High School and attended the University of Florida. He was a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served four years where he met the love of his life Shirley Smart. They married in 1955 and settled in Winter Park Florida where they raised five beautiful children. Jim was a top salesman for Gerber and Kimberly-Clark throughout his career. He retired in 1995 and lived in Longwood, Florida and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma for the remainder of his life. He was an avid bowler who bowled in leagues for over 35 years. He also enjoyed playing tennis and golf. Jim and Shirley dedicated over 40 years delivering Meals on Wheels in the various communities they lived.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Daniel & Irene (Bradford) Groover, his sister Ann Hines, brothers Daniel and Charles Groover, and great-granddaughter Kinslee Jean Ceballos. He is survived by his wife Shirley of the home, children Mike (Barb) Groover, Apopka Florida; Tim (Buster) Groover, Louisville Kentucky; Kelly (Joe) Pike, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Katy (Danny) Snead, Catoosa, Oklahoma; and Jim (Stacey) Groover, Chattanooga Tennessee. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren with number 10 arriving January 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Meals on Wheel chapter. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
