James Henry Jones Sr., a beloved father, brother, uncle, and papa, a joyful soul, and a highly respected man of great faith, passed away on September 10, 2023. He was born on August 8, 1944, and throughout his remarkable life, he left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
A man who brought laughter and joy to countless lives, James was best known for his humor and dedication to living his life as a faithful man of God. With a quick wit and a contagious smile, he had the remarkable ability to light up a room and lift the spirits of everyone around him. His friendly and polite demeanor endeared him to all who crossed his path, making him a cherished friend to many.
Beyond his comedic talents, James had a passion for God and spent many hours praying studying and honing his relationship with the Lord.. He had a love of sports and pursued bowling and ping pong in his life. In his younger years he enjoyed a pickup game of basketball with the young men in his neighborhood.
James spent time in his ministry as a youth minister, guiding and mentoring countless young souls on their spiritual journeys. His compassion and dedication in this role left a lasting impact on the lives he touched.
James Henry Jones Sr. was not only a man of humor and sportsmanship but also a brave and dedicated Marine who served his country during the Vietnam War. His commitment to duty and his sacrifices in the service of his nation will always be remembered and appreciated.
On July 10, 1966, James united in marriage with the love of his life, Marian Yvette Jones. They celebrated an astonishing 50 years of marriage together, marking their golden anniversary in California, where their love story began. The bond they shared was unbreakable, and they faced life's joys and challenges hand in hand.
James is survived by his loving children, Ina Jones, James Jones Jr., and Jerome Jones, as well as eight cherished grandchildren. He leaves behind sisters Lena Hooks, Gwendolyn Lyles, and Cheryl Reynolds-Young, and brother Love Jones. Jr.. James also leaves behind a multitude of other family members and friends.
James Henry Jones Sr. is now reunited with his beloved Marian Yvette Jones, and his dear mother, Ceola Murlean (Norton) and father Love Clarence Jones, Sr. in the loving embrace of eternity. While he will be greatly missed, the memories of his laughter, his love, and his unwavering respect for others will live on forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
