Marla, you have always been like family to me. As a widow myself, it pains me to see another woman become a member of a club that none of us ever wanted to be a member of. My heart aches for you and your family.
Dear Marla and family, Since this tragedy occurred, I have spent much time thinking about all of you……. Marla, who I first noticed at Toll Jr. High School with the most perfect posture I'd ever seen and that long, long, blonde hair. It wasn't until Hoover High that we somehow found each other and became friends. We shared an interest in horses and spent hours riding the trails. Soon after, we discovered "boys." I remember when you started dating Jim and eventually we each married our sweethearts. Who could forget your wedding with your attendants getting food poisoning and me standing in as your Maid of Honor at the last minute. Then, it was off to Oklahoma for you and off to New York for me. We both began our adult lives……buying houses, raising children, having careers. How I looked forward to your annual Christmas letter with your ever-interesting stories! We have both had many adventures over the years, but nothing could have prepared anyone for this terrible turn of events. My heart breaks for all of you but I know you will arise from the ashes like the Phoenix and continue living your life as you must. I am here when/if you feel like talking. Much love…… ❤️
Dear Marla and Lana, Jim was a awesome husband and a loving father. And he will be greatly missed, by all that knew him. Our love and thoughts are with you and we are keeping you all in our prayers, love always. Rick and Sandy and the Sterken Family.

Jim you were always so funny and so corny, you welcomed me kindly at church from thr very first day. You shared things with me in a very real way. This is a tragic loss for the family, our church, and the entire community. You have left behind a family that you led to God, and that is a great legacy and the greatest thing a man can do for his family. I will miss your corny jokes and your kind eyes, always ready to say hi and shake my hand. Thanks for being a part of my life. We will meet again and sing together someday my friend.
Marla and Lana there are no words really to express such a deep loss the only thing for me is that I reach out to you heart to heart… I has been such a shock to everyone Jim and Marla have been so strong couple in our church always there to help. They love our Lord so much and most of all it show in how they treat and love people… They have helped me when I needed so much help and they always help with a warm and giving heart. This is so hard to process this loss Jim will always be missed in our church and community we love you so much Jim till we meet again Rest our dear friend in Jesus we will rejoice when we meet again love and hugs to all….
Our memories are enriched by the times spent with Jim and Marla sharing Thanksgiving dinners when our families were young. We will always remember Jim for his kind-hearted, caring manner and his fun sense of humor. Thank you, Jim and Marla, for your friendship and those sweet memories. Jim touched many lives and will be missed by so many. Mary Gammenthaler
