James "Jim" Lenford Simpson's Obituary
James 'Jim' Lenford Simpson, born March 10, 1946, in Tulsa, to John and Evelyn Simpson. Jim passed away on December 1st, 2010 at the age of 64. The second of seven siblings, Jim graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1964. He joined the Navy out of high school where he specialized in mechanical work on air craft engines. After his military service, Jim returned to Tulsa and resumed his passion for cars, which became a lifelong pursuit. Jim built and helped build many street rods through the years, including his beloved 1940 Ford Coupe. Jim made hundreds of wonderful friends in the street rodding community along the way, stretching from coast to coast and as far away as Australia. He was known for his ability to craft parts from scratch for hot rods, custom made hot wheels and the large scale models that he enjoyed building. Jim also had a passion for collecting and customizing hot wheels and won several awards for his creations. He was also generous in donating toys to local children's charities. Jim had a special place in his heart for children. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Evelyn and his brother, John III. He is survived by his daughter, Dedra, sisters Sandra and Susan, brothers Gary, Patrick and Scott, as well as a myriad of close friends in the street rodding world.
