James Wallace Murphree M.D.'s Obituary
James Wallace Murphree M.D. 84 died January 7, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born March 15, 1926 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He attended McAlester High School. He did premed education at Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Ok, Attended Emory University in Atlanta, Ga, and the University of Oklahoma at Norman, Ok and medical school at University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1947. Dr. Murphree interned and was a resident in radiology at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota. He was a Lt. USNR Nas- Memphis1949-1950 and Kansas City (Olathe) 1950-1951 and worked in Cleveland Ohio, Bartlesville, Oklahoma and private office practice- Ponca City and radiologist- St. Joseph Medical Center. from 1954 to 1976. He was with several hospitals in the later years and practices: Dan Mitchell ( Enid Ok) Eastern Okla. Med. Ctr (Poteau Ok) Durant Regional Med. Ctr. Humana Hospital (Overland Park, Kn) St. Luke’s Hospital in Wellingtion Kn., and Tahlequah City Hospital (Tahlequah, Ok) and also Parsons and Atchison Kn, Tulsa, Enid, Sapulpa, Okmulgee Oklahoma. He held several memberships, Cookson Co. Medical Soc., Okla. State Med. Assoc. Amer. Med Assn, NE Okla Rad Soc., Okla chapter Amer. Brd, Radiologist St. Joseph Med Ctr, Okla. Chaper Amer. Coll Rad. Sec., Amer Coll Rad Councillor from Okla. 63-72, Univ of Okla Health Sciences Ctr, Div Rad Vst lecturer, Univ. of Oklahoma Health SciColl of Med Admisssions Comm, Amer Coll Rad Accreditation Exanimer 85-86. Dr. Murphree was Presbyterian Brd of Elders First Presby Church, Ponca City, Okla 56-76 Chm Music Com 63-76 Chamber of Com. Ponca City 54-76 Chm Education Com 65-70, Chamber of Com. Ponca City, 54-76 Chm Education Com 56-70, Communtiy Concerts Assn Ponca City Brd Dir 56-60, Amer Cancer Soc Ponca City Div. 55-70 Brd Dir 60-70, Pioneer Natl Bank Ponca City Brd Directors 67 Ponca City Country Club 54-76 and was president 1963, Who’s Who in South and Southwest 60-90. Survived by his wife Barbara, son Jim Murphree, 3 daughters, Paula Debo, Kathy Stearmen, Melanie Norris, and a brother Charles O. Murphree and 3 grandchildren.
