James Crigler Powell Sr.'s Obituary
After 95 years of life, James Crigler (Jim) Powell, Sr., of University Village Tulsa, departed this life on December 13, 2022, Jim was born October 21, 1927, in Coody's Bluff, OK, 5 miles east of Nowata. He was the 3rd son of Robert W ("Babe") Powell and Mary Edith (Harris) Powell. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Ella Charlotte (Rowe) Powell, and his brothers Robert W Powell Jr. and Jean Harris Powell.
Jim had a long career in the military, beginning with the US Navy in July 1945. After WWII and a brief stint as a civilian, he shifted to the US Air Force, completing 22 years of service to his country with the rank of Master Sargent. Jim retired in 1968 to Tulsa. He and his family were stationed in a wide variety of locales during his career: Kansas, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Guam. He was also briefly stationed in Miho, Japan during the Korean conflict. He enjoyed a second career in building maintenance and locksmithing. He and Charlotte enjoyed their retirement traveling around the country with their travel trailer. They also loved to travel on cruise ships. They attended Memorial Drive United Methodist Church for many years.
He will be remembered for his love of family. He and Charlotte raised five children; daughter, Sherry Ann Ransom, and husband, Bob of Wichita Falls TX; son, James (Jim Jr.) and wife, Pam of Dallas TX; son, Wayne, and wife, Vickie of Tulsa; son, John of Austin TX; and son, Richard, and wife Cindy of Tulsa. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4-6 pm, Monday, December 19, 2022, at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel
