James Duane Shaw's Obituary
JAMES DUANE SHAW SEPTEMBER 7, 1922 – MARCH 27, 2016James D. Shaw was born in Alva, Oklahoma to Stella and James O. Shaw on Sept. 7, 1922. He and his parents lived in Wellington, Kansas, then moved to Tulsa and then to Oklahoma City. Jim graduated from Classen High School in 1939. He next enlisted in the Army serving as a corporal during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a carbine expert and Link Trainer Instructor. After the war, he married the love of his life, LaVerna, and obtained a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He began a career at Public Service Company of Oklahoma in Tulsa. He worked at Public Service Company for 38 years and lead in developing the marketing of heat pumps and central air-conditioning. Jim had an active life in Tulsa. His first priority in life was to honor God and Jesus Christ with devoted Bible study and service. He wrote many Bible talks which he delivered from coast to coast for his entire life. Those who met James knows he was always ready to talk about the Lord and guide in Bible study. Jim had a busy life with his wife, and daughters. He and LaVerna were square dancers, bowlers, bridge players and loved to travel. They enjoyed meeting with the Circuit Riders. Dad enjoyed tennis and golf as well as being an avid O.U. fan. The entire family loved fishing, skiing and swimming with friends at Stony Point on Grand Lake. After retiring, Jim volunteered for the Red Cross driving vans around town for many years. James was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerna Shaw, in 2009. He leaves behind to carry on his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Lawrence Welker, and daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Richard Piqune. The family gives their heart-felt thanks to Aberdeen Heights Assisted Living in Tulsa, Oxford Glen Memory Care in Owasso, Autumn Wood Memory Care in Claremore, and St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute, may send donations in James Shaw’s name to Bible Standard Ministries, 1156 St. Matthews Road, Chester Springs, PA 19425-2700. Funeral Service will be 12:30 PM, Thursday, March 31st, Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
