James Stout,Sr's Obituary
James A. Stout, Sr., 94, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri went to be with his Savior and dear bride of 69 years, Mattie, On March 6th, 2021. He was born to Russell Stout and Melissa (Griffin) Stout on January 25, 1927 near Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, as he would often say, on a cold, snowy morning. His younger sister Mary and he were the youngest of 11 children and grew up during the depression, which left a lifelong impression.
James joined the Army in May 1945 and spent that time in Texas until November 1946. He worked with his brothers building Gilcrease Museum after his discharge.
A man of faith and faithful church going man since youth, in 1947 he met a young lady at Cincinnati Avenue Christian Church. He always said he knew from the minute Mattie Danel sat down beside him, she was the one! They were married April 10th, 1948 in Kansas City, MO where he was briefly attending vocational school. They raised three children and lived happily ever in Tulsa, OK. In 2012 they moved back to the Kansas City area where Mattie went home to be with The Lord four days after their 69th anniversary in 2017. Together again, they are now living their life-long dream….spending eternity with their Savior.
Dad was employed with South Western Bell for 34 years before retiring at age 57 in 1984. He was always well thought of by co-workers and bosses alike and had the nick name of Gabby, because he wasn’t!
After he and mom retired, they traveled…they loved to travel, to all fifty states and over the years many European countries and Israel, as well. They recorded many of their vacations and shared them with home-bound family and friends. They are surely reliving some of those sweet memories in heaven!
James’ parents and his 10 siblings preceded him in death, as did his dear wife Mattie (Danel) Stout, on Aril 14th, 2017 and their daughter, Freida (Stout) Brown, on March 4th, in 2019. Left to look forward to their reunion in heaven is their daughter, Elaine, her husband, Jim McClanahan, son James A. Stout, Jr., and son-in-love Rodney Brown, and the greatest of grandchildren and great grands, Mike McClanahan, Jeff McClanahan, David and his wife, Heather McClanahan, and their children Jude, Titus, Evy and Tilly; Nathan and Lori Brown, and their children, Grayson, Ysabella, Canon, Sawyer, Elias, Ezra, Silas; Toby and his wife Jennifer, and their children, Bailey and Parker; Isaac and his wife, Rebecca and their children, Ellianna and Vivilynn. A host of other family and friends rejoice with them today!
A service to celebrate James’ life will be held Thursday, March 11th, at 12:30 at Floral Haven Cemetery. We will gather at 1:30 at the family center building for a light meal and fellowship before a brief graveside service at 3:30 for those who wish to stay.
