James M. Woods' Obituary
James “Jim” Marvin Woods was born January 2nd, 1926, to Charles and Pauline Wood, in the Duck Creek Community area of southern Tulsa County in Oklahoma. Jim went to be with the Lord on February 25th, 2016, at the age of 90 years old. He grew up in the Bixby/Leonard area in rural Oklahoma. He was raised on a farm where he developed his love for animals. He joined the Navy at a very young age serving his country as a Seaman First Class on the USS Vicksburg stationed out of San Diego, California. After two years, five months, and nine days in the Navy, which included serving during WWII, he was discharged on June 8th, 1946. Jim married his wife Billie Dove Hunter on June 19th, 1948. He worked as a machinist for most of his life including working for Aero Parts Manufacturing, now OCV Control Valves, for 47 years. Jim’s home was always open and everyone was always welcome. He loved having his entire family around, especially Sunday lunches after church, where his job was peeling the potatoes. He also seemed to always have that five minute job for someone to do around the house/farm when you showed up that somehow took a little longer than five minutes. He really enjoyed caring for all his farm animals, especially the Peacocks and feeding the horses. Jim is survived by his sister Blanche Gibson and brother Chuck Wood; daughter Carolyn DuPree and her husband Mike; son Mike Woods and his wife Teresa; grandchildren Stephanie Parker and her husband Gentry, Melissa Paschall and her husband Jason, Justin Woods and his wife Julia, Jacob Woods, Josh DuPree and his wife Lauren, Jonathan Woods and his wife Sarah; and 14 great grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Billie Woods; his parents Charles and Pauline Wood; his 2 brothers, Bill Wood and Houston Wood; and his sister, Beatrice Colbert. Visitation is to be held on Sunday, February 28th, 2016 at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The family will welcome visitors from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral Services to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Monday, February 29th, 2016 at 11:00 am at Bethany Church, 100 N. Olive, Broken Arrow, OK 74012 with graveside services to follow at Floral Haven Cemetery.
