James Anthony Young's Obituary
James Anthony Young, affectionately known as Jay, was born on February 3rd, 1946, in Sardis, Mississippi, to James Robert Young and Glennie Gatewood. He graduated from Marshall High School in Chicago, Illinois, and later established a distinguished career as a Senior Computer Operations Analyst with Amoco Oil, where he dedicated over 30 years of service. His career brought him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he made his home.
On May 16, 1981, Jay married the love of his life, Jeanette Short, in Chicago, Illinois. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership.
Jay is survived by his father, James Robert Young of Cleveland, Ohio, his devoted wife of 43 years, Jeanette Young; and his children: Anthony (Lorna) Seymore of Chicago, Illinois; Antonette Redmond of Chicago, Illinois; Kimberly Maybell (Don) of Bloomington, Illinois; Nikki Young of Savannah, Texas; and Tiffany Bright (Daryl) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
He is also survived by his siblings: David Young, Robert Young, Wanda Fay Young-Morton, and Mark Green all of Cleveland, Ohio, and Khadija Rousseau of Cincinnati, Ohio. Jay’s legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren—Bria, Cheyenne, Chris, Daryl “Lil Rock”, David, Dylan, Jailissa, Jarvis, Mariana, Monica, Zion, and Zoie—as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Jay was preceded in death by his cherished son, James “Jimmy” Young; his mother, Glennie Gatewood Fava; his sister-in-law, Annette Goldschmidt; and his brother-in-law, James Short.
On Sunday, November 24, 2024, Jay passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. His family and friends will forever treasure the memories he created and the profound impact he had on their lives.
A public visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 10:00 AM till 2:30 PM located at Floral Havens Rose Chapel located. A graveside service to honor and celebrate James's life will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens at the Dogwood Mausoleum at 3:00 PM. Those wishing to send flowers for the service may do so by contacting Floral Designs by Floral Haven at (918) 459-1525. Independent florists are kindly asked to deliver flowers directly to Floral Haven Funeral Home by 9:00 AM on Friday, November 29, 2024, to ensure proper display for James's visitation.
