I am so happy and blessed to have known Jane. She was my Mother-in-law and a wonderful Grandma. My daughter called her Nanny when she was learning to talk, and it stuck. We all called her Nanny from then on and I thought it quite fitting for such a cool Grandma. We shared so many delicious meals: Swiss Steak, Curry Chicken and she made an amazing Wild Rice. She taught me how to make my first Thanksgiving Turkey and now I've taught my daughter the same way. Some meals in particular I recall are when Gavin and I were a young married couple. She'd invite us over and the table was set up formally with lovely place mats, pretty plates, stemmed glassware and cloth napkins in napkin rings. It was special. Then Natalie came along, and a highchair was pulled up to the table with all the things she loved. It was warm and relaxing. We were often sent home with delicious leftovers which were very much appreciated. But you better remember to return that Cool Whip container, haha. I certainly was glad to do so knowing we'd get more the next time around. She encouraged me as a new Mom and told me I was doing a great job, which is so comforting when you're trying to do your very best. She watched Natalie several days a week when I was at work. I remember one time in particular when we arrived, and Natalie ran straight to the glass sliding door to look at the squirrels. I thought I sure wanted to stay there too and enjoy that pace of life and not go to work that day. She instilled a love of reading and introduced Natalie to Patsy Cline and other greats of that time. They watched old movies together which was a favorite pastime for Nanny. They enjoyed newer ones together too - all the Star Wars and all the Indiana Jones movies. Nanny is why I finally watched "The Sound of Music." I knew it was out there as one of the classics, but just never got around to watching it. I later remarried and all of us continued a great relationship. This included Natalie's Dad too. Jane took on my new stepdaughters as her own grandkids. They enjoyed so many things with her like decorating Easter Eggs. This wasn't just anywhere; it was at a table all decorated up for Easter. She embraced the holidays. They enjoyed being at Bible School with her and just so many, many other times. These are some of my great memories and experiences with Nanny. I know she loved all of us so much and will be missed. I love you, Nanny!
